Abed, a third-year Kinesiology student passionate about his program as well as software development, likes to find ways to blend his interests. He started research in the Neuromechanics Lab during his first year under Dr. Jessica Selinger, working on using wearable sensors with machine learning to estimate energy expenditure during indoor and outdoor locomotion. Abed also began research on COPD in the Respiratory Investigation Unit (RIU) at KGH recently, emphasizing dyspnea determinants through predictors calculated with cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Presently, Abed continues research in both the RIU and Neuromechanics Lab, concurrently pursuing a KNPE 352 internship in the Sensory Motor Exploration Lab (SMEL) under Gerome Manson, with a focus on leveraging machine learning for lower extremity motor coordination tests.
If he’s not fishing, Abed can be found paddle boarding in the lake, or playing spike ball at the pier. He also enjoys a good night in, playing games, and may pick up the saxophone or play the piano every once in a while.
